Best Sleeping Positions for Spinal Health

At Merkling Family Chiropractic, we recognize the importance of proper sleep is just as important as spinal health, and that the two are closely connected. Without adequate spinal alignment, achieving a restful sleep can be nearly impossible. That’s why we are teaming up with Saavta Mattresses to promote better sleep habits and mindfulness when it comes to our sleeping positions. Here are some of the best sleeping positions for spinal health.

On Your Back

Lying flat on your back allows the spine to maintain its natural curve while evenly distributing your body weight. This reduces pressure on your back and prevents misalignment. Experts recommend placing a pillow underneath your knees to further support the natural curve of your lower spine.

On Your Side

This position promotes more open space between your spinal vertebrae. This reduces tension on the discs in the spine. Placing a pillow between your knees will prevent your upper leg from pulling your spine out of alignment.

On Your Stomach

Even though this position is not the most ideal, if you prefer to sleep on your stomach, aim to place a pillow underneath your pelvis and lower abdomen to avoid putting strain on your neck or spine.
