Easy Stretches for Lower Back Pain

Stretching can help alleviate back pain, prevent injuries while exercising, and provide several additional benefits. This post highlights five basic stretches that target lower back pain.

Lower Back Stretch in Sitting Position

  1. Sit on a chair with your feet resting flat on the floor.
  2. Lightly twist your upper body to one side, holding the back of the chair for support.

Standing Side Stretch

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart. To perform the exercise, lift one arm up and overhead. Then, gently lean towards the opposite side.

Pelvic Tilts in Standing Position

  1. Stand with your back against a wall.
  2. Contract the abdominal muscles and press your lower back firmly against the wall to create a flat surface.

Chair Lunge Stretch

  1. Stand behind a chair and step one foot back into a lunge position.
  2. Keep your back straight and feel a stretch in the hip of the back leg.

Wall Angels

  • Assume a standing position with your back against a wall and your arms by your sides. Next, slowly lift your arms overhead while maintaining contact with the wall.
