Two Conditions That Can Improve With Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been proven to be a safe, natural way to effectively treat a variety of physical and mental health conditions. This noninvasive treatment method has been in use for thousands of years and countless individuals have experienced the natural healing benefits that acupuncture provides.

We’re going to discuss two of the most prevalent conditions that can be treated with acupuncture therapy.

Treating back pain with acupuncture

Back Pain

Back pain is one of the most common conditions adults have to deal with. In 2018, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducted a survey which showed that 28% of men and 31.6% of women over the age of 18 had experienced back pain within the three months prior to taking the survey. Other studies have been conducted showing that over 75% of both men and women have experienced back pain.

Acupuncture therapy has been shown to be an effective way to combat back pain and its correlating symptoms.

How Does Acupuncture Treat Back Pain?

  • Helps kickstart the flow of endorphins, one of the body’s innate painkillers
  • Stimulates sections of the nervous system linked to pain relief
  • Triggers the body’s release of naturally occurring opioid-like chemicals

By targeting specific points on your body, acupuncture restores the flow of Qi (ch’i) leading to the benefits we’ve just listed.

Treating nicotine addiction with acupuncture

Nicotine Addiction

According to the CDC, 34 million American adults still smoke cigarettes. And with the recent surge in the use of vaping products, nicotine addiction and its associated health affects aren’t going away any time soon.

Smokers are more likely than nonsmokers to develop heart disease, stroke, and lung cancer.*

Estimates show smoking increases the risk:

  • For coronary heart disease by 2 to 4 times
  • For stroke by 2 to 4 times
  • Of men developing lung cancer by 25 times
  • Of women developing lung cancer by 25.7 times

Treating Nicotine Addiction with Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been clinically proven to effectively get smokers to reduce the number of cigarettes they smoke. And in some cases, it has led smokers to completely give up the habit for five years or longer. A study conducted by the American Health Foundation and provided by the US National Library of Medicine showed that while smokers were receiving acupuncture therapy, they smoked an average of seven less cigarettes per day.

It’s important to note that nicotine is an extremely addictive substance, and in order for acupuncture therapy to be effective the smoker must have the actual intention of quitting smoking. It is recommended that you refrain from smoking cigarettes for the 24 hours prior to your first acupuncture appointment.
