Chiropractic Treatments

Chiropractic Adjustments

The most common primary therapeutic procedure used by doctors of chiropractic is a spinal adjustment or manipulation.  Spinal adjustments come in many forms. The doctors at Merckling Family chiropractic use multiple types of spinal manipulations based on patient presentation and comfort/tolerance level. Adjustment force can be varied based on the individual patients needs and level of comfort with the procedure. Some common types of spinal manipulations used in our practice include: Diversified adjusting, Instrument assisted adjusting/Activator technique, Flexion/Distraction, Drop table adjustments, Webster technique, Rib adjustments and extremity adjustments to the shoulders, hips, knees, wrists and ankle/foot.

Flexion & Distraction

Our office is fortunate to have a state-of-the-art computerized and automated flexion distraction table. This table is specifically designed for treatment of cervical/lumbar disc herniations/bulges and pinched nerves.

Electric Stim Therapy

Electric Muscle Stimulation/Interferential/TENS: Uses a small safe level of electrical impulse delivered over effected regions of the muscles, tendons, ligaments or nerves to help reduce inflammation in tissues and promote healing. Electric stimulation has the effect of reducing swelling and increasing circulation. Also, it may be able to act as a nerve transmission blocker, which would deflect and therefore reduce the sensation of pain.

Webster Technique for Prenatal Back Pain

Sacral and other pelvic misalignments during pregnancy can be a primary cause of low back pain and/or sciatica for many women. These misalignments may also contribute to difficult labor and delivery for the expectant mother. Read more…

dynatron-solaris-plus-logoDynatronics ThermoStim Probe

A state-of-the-art technology using heat (up to 112 degrees), cold (down to 39 degrees), electrical stimulation and soft tissue mobilization all at the same time. This technology reduces healing time for a variety of conditions including rotator cuff tendonitis, tennis/golfers elbow, and low back muscle spasms.

Ultrasound

Uses ultrasonic sound waves which pass through the skin and causes vibration of the local tissues stimulating a deep heat effect.  It has been shown to increase tissue relaxation, local blood flow and scar tissue breakdown.

Low-Level Laser Therapy

Sometimes referred to as cold laser therapy because it generates no heat or other detectable sensation. It uses a low-level infrared laser in conjunction with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to speed up the healing process in injured tissues. Its method of action is by stimulating chromophores in our cells which speed up the regenerative process.

Cold/Ice Therapy

Use of ice packs is one of the easiest methods to slow down blood flow to an injury, thereby reducing inflammation, muscle spasm and pain.

Heat Therapy

Application of hot moist packs is used to help open up blood vessels increasing blood flow supplying oxygen and essential nutrients to effected tissues. The warmth helps to decrease muscle spasms, increase range of motion and improve flexibility.

Soft Tissue Massage/Manipulation

There are a multitude of soft tissue techniques that can be used to assist in the reduction of pain, muscle spasm, and range of motion dependent on patient condition. Our office frequently uses massage therapy, trigger point therapy, deep tissue massage, Active release therapy, and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation.

Therapeutic Exercises/Stretching

Dependent on your condition our office will offer specific guidance in the types of exercises and stretches that you should be doing to most effectively speed your recovery process. Exercises and stretches are designed to help with increasing strength, range of motion, postural control and stability to speed your recovery and protect against recurrence of injuries. Exercises and Stretching can be both doctor assisted/observed as well as home based.
